One hundred and eight professional fine artists from West Sonoma County open their studios to the public for 2 weekends in June. The Sebastopol Center for the Arts sponsors this annual self guided tour now in its 14th year. Painters, sculptors, photographers, potters, jewelers, fiber and glass artists showcase the best of their works in this popular event. Studios are open Sat. & Sun. 10am-5pm, May 31–June 1 and June 7–8. The Sebastopol Center for the Arts will host a preview exhibit featuring a piece of each participating artist's work from May 16 through June 8 at the Art Center's Gallery located at 6780 Depot Street in Sebastopol (10am-5pm Mon-Fri, 1-4pm Sat-Sun). Fifty-two wineries in the Russian River Wine Road will also exhibit Art at the Source artists' work during the month of May. Open studios are located in Sebastopol, Forestville, Occidental, Bodega Bay, Guerneville, Graton and Santa Rosa west of Highway 101. See www.artatthesource.org for details. Bodega Bay After filming “Shadow of A Doubt” in Santa Rosa in 1948, Alfred Hitchcock returned to Sonoma County in 1961 to find a remote coastal location for his next project “The Birds.” He chose Bodega Bay, with surrounding bleak treeless hills, quiet fishing harbor and fog. California Art: 19th Century Painters of Northern California Linda and Dan of Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery present a special show of 100-year-old paintings in the realist and tonalist landscape style by famous Northern California painters, some local born including "Californios" Napoleon Primo Vallejo and Manuel Valencia, and immigrants including Scandinavians and Scots, with historic books and old newspaper articles. The Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery is down the driveway to the lower parking lot of the Blue Whale Building on Eastshore, behind Local Color Gallery and not far from the Ren Brown Collection. Regular hours are Fridays Saturdays and Sundays noon to 5PM. Special appointments are always available 875-2911 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gourmet Au Bay Winemaker Series We're bringing back the Winemaker series for 2008 and it's lined up with some excellent, small-production wineries. These are casual events out on Kaya's Deck and will take place from 3-5pm on the first Saturday of the month. A $10 tasting fee will be waived towards your purchase of the featured wines.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whale Watching at Bodega Head January-May — Whale Watching at Bodega Head. Docents are here every weekend to assist the public in viewing the migration. Heavy rain and very windy conditions cancel. Noon-4pm. The Stewards are also offering some wonderful community education seminars in '08, with field sessions on Redwood Ecology, Geology of the Sonoma Coast, Exploring the Intertidal Zone and more.
