Chowder Day 2005 in Bodega Bay

More than 500 visitors, from near and far, toured Bodega Bay on Saturday February 12th to taste and judge the clam chowder at six local restaurants. The Boathouse received the largest number of positive comments based on the hundreds of completed forms returned by the tasters. Very near to the top this year were the Tides Wharf and the new Spud Point Crab Company. Below in the order of popularity, are the restaurants who participated in Chowder Day 2005 and some of the comments received on each one.

  1. Boathouse – Lots of clam flavor, good veggies, excellent service, great presentation with red napkins & crackers on the side.
  2. Tides Wharf – Creamy & good, perfect consistency, server was great, loved the hot sauce selection.
  3. Spud Point Crab – Rich, unusual blend of seasonings, creamy & buttery, garlicy, friendly happy servers.
  4. Bodega Harbour – Fantastic view, creamy & rich, great flavor, hint of wine? tarragon? Too bad they ran out, I heard it was great!
  5. Brisas del Mar – Perfectly spicy, loved the bacon smoky flavor, friendly servers, look forward to coming back.
  6. Sandpiper – Nice & creamy, unusual combination of herbal flavors.
