Winemaker Dinner with Tom Rochioli @ Bay View Restaurant

On Friday, November 16, 2018, we welcome Tom Rochioli of Rochioli Vineyards & Winery to the Bay View Restaurant at Inn at the Tides. You are welcome to join us.
Back in 1959, Tom watched his father and grandfather plant Sauvignon Blanc. At the time, Sauvignon Blanc was a strange new white grape. Today, the same vines are in production and are considered some of the oldest Sauvignon vines in California. When it comes to grape vines, “old is gold.” They naturally yield smaller berries with a higher ratio of solids to liquid. Old vines are constant. With deep roots, they tap moisture in drought conditions and guard against bloating when the rain pours from above. It's a difference you can taste. Old-vine wines deliver textural richness and layered flavors that build rather than trail off after the up-front fruit fades away. It's analogous to the warm, rich tone of an old violin versus the brighter timbre of new wood.
In 1968, Tom’s brother Joe Jr. planted fine Pinot Noir clones from France and again this little-known grape was another first to the Russian River Valley. In 1987 they released their first estate wine, the 1985 Rochioli Pinot Noir and were surprised when Wine Spectator named it “The Best Pinot Noir in America.” A few years later, the Burgundy Region of France inspired recognition of the diverse terroir across their 140 acres. Tom preserves the grapes’ character by separating lots during winemaking. The winemaker creates micro-batches with notable differences activated by the diverse soil, terrain, and micro climates found on the Russian River Estate.
This Winemaker Dinner begins with Roasted Baby Beets and Micro Arugula paired with Rochioli’s 2017 Estate Sauvignon Blanc. The second course is a Basil Pesto Risotto served with their 2016 Estate Chardonnay. Next, we will enjoy a fabulous Filet Mignon paired with a 2016 Little Hill Pinot Noir. We finish with Poached Pears and Vanilla Walnut Gelato served with a 2014 Blanc de Noir from the River Block. Please join us for this very special evening.

Doors open at 6:30 pm for cocktails. Dinner served at 7:00 pm.
