Just as the name “Bay” suggest, there are wonderful seaside opportunities awaiting, and sailing is one of the most exciting. It’s exhilarating to be out where waves lap alongside the boat, while being carried by those favorable breezes. Adventure awaits the nautical you. And Captain Rich, of Bodega Bay Sailing Adventures, is ready and able to take you away. You’ll travel through the bay and then into open waters, on a three-hour excursion.
Bodega Bay Sailing Adventures is a locally owned by Richard Crumley, who owns a green business. These excursions are ideal for Sonoma County vacationers and are also only an hour from most North Bay points. You climb on board in the historic hamlet of Bodega Bay. (Think of Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds.”)
Adventurous Captain Rich started sailing as a kid, in Southern California. He worked as Park Ranger in Bodega Bay, for 13 years, and can point out local flora and fauna. In 2007, he sailed from Hawaii to San Francisco, and has taken his boat with his family to Mexico, in 2014 to 2015.
Rich Crumley offers a 3-hour sailing tour of Bodega Bay, is done on his beautifully maintained, 33-foot sailboat. According to Captain Rich, “Our boat is Coast Guard inspected anderyone wears a life jacket. Generally, we see lots of migratory birds, seals, and sea lions. Whales are common during peak migration season. It’s not fast, but it’s a fun way to see Bodega Bay.” Your captain is a Coast Guard OPUV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels).
For frequently asked question, Captain Rich has the following advice:
• It can be chilly any time of the year, and I recommend bringing some warm layers. The Finish people say, “there is no bad weather, just bad clothing.’
• You can bring food and wine, but three hours goes by quickly.
• There is a restroom on board..
• Its best to wear shoes.
• I can only take 6 people.
• We start our trip from the harbor, sail to the outer bay and usually out to the open ocean for a bit.
• Some people take Dramamine before going.
Captain Rich started Bodega Bay Sailing in 2006, after showing friends the beautiful Sonoma Coastline. One out-of-town guest said it was the “best day of his life!” Maybe it will be for you, too!
